Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert has admitted that the Bundesliga side will “consider” offers for Liverpool transfer target Kaishu Sano.
The midfielder has impressed with his performances for Japan at the World Cup, which has subsequently led to him being linked with the Reds and other clubs. Asked about the chances of a sale happening this summer, Bungert said:

“There’s no doubt there are interested parties. It’s well known that England is the league where outstanding players usually move. Our big advantage is that the player still has a long-term contract, so we’re under no pressure at all and won’t be rushing anything.
“If a club comes along with an offer, we’ll consider it. If, in our view, it’s not high enough for the player’s market value, then it’s also possible that Kaishu will stay with us longer.”
“As of today, everything is still open. But we know, of course, that we have a player who is generating a lot of interest.”
4 clubs are pursuing Sano
Reports in the Japanese media have claimed that Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are all tracking the 25-year-old.
Sano is very much a holding midfielder, but he is technically gifted and two-footed. Last season, he scored 2 goals and contributed 5 assists in 48 appearances, picking up one solitary yellow card.

Liverpool will have to pay a sizeable fee
Despite having signed Sano for just €2.5m from Kashima Antlers two years ago, Mainz may demand upwards of €60m (£51m) for the player’s services.
The Reds are on the lookout for a midfielder, having made enquiries about Mateus Fernandes before his move to Tottenham. They have also been credited with an interest in Felix Nmecha and Marcus Tavernier.
Mainz’s asking price for Sano does seem a bit excessive, and Andoni Iraola’s side have to be mindful of their transfer budget, with reinforcements required in several other key positions too.
