Celtic have moved to secure the services of one of their experienced squad members ahead of the new campaign, handing a fresh contract to a player who helped the club enjoy another trophy-laden season.
Martin O’Neill’s side are preparing to defend their Scottish Premiership crown while also competing in the Champions League, and retaining experienced figures has been an important part of the club’s summer planning following last season’s domestic double.
That player is former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with Celtic officially confirming via the club’s website that he has signed a new one-year contract to remain at the club for the 2026/27 season.
The extension comes after the 32-year-old enjoyed a positive first season in Glasgow after most recently playing for Besiktas some months before.
His experience and quality added valuable depth to O’Neill’s squad as Celtic lifted both the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “I’m delighted to be staying at Celtic for another year.”
“It was an incredible time last season and to be part of that success in winning the league and Scottish Cup was so special.”
“I’m really excited to be back and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the boys and getting to work ahead of what will hopefully be another successful season.”
Liverpool fans will remember Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his six-year spell at Anfield after joining from Arsenal in 2017.
Although his time on Merseyside was disrupted by several serious injuries, he remained a popular figure and played his part in one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history under Jurgen Klopp.
During his Liverpool career, the midfielder won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup before departing in 2023.
After restarting his career at Celtic last season, it is great to see him rewarded with a new contract.
