Liverpool have set their “sights” on Almeria attacking midfielder Sergio Arribas, who scored 25 goals last season, according to reports in Spain.
Liverpool’s transfer business so far this summer has seen only Victor Munoz signed to bolster the forward line, with a move for a right winger expected to come next.
The club’s needs are expansive, and in midfield it primarily lies in obtaining a defensive option, but reports from IDEAL have linked them to the attack-minded Arribas.
The outlet is a regional Spanish newspaper local to Almeria, which means they have close connections to the club, and they state Liverpool “now appears to have joined the race to secure his services.”
It is said that the Reds are scouring the market “for young players with room for growth and the ability to make a difference in attack,” a mould which fits Arribas, whom they have set their “sights on.”
The 24-year-old played 42 times for Almeria in LaLiga2 last season and scored 25 times, assisting a further seven, establishing him as “one of the most sought-after players in the Segunda Division.”
IDEAL explain that Arribas’ “ability to appear between the lines, his ease in getting into the box, and his clinical finishing” have numerous European clubs monitoring his progress.
Sporting Lisbon are heavily linked to the Madrid-born midfielder, who previously played for Real Madrid and has 50 percent of his economic rights owned by Los Blancos.
It means they will earn 50 percent of any future transfer fee, as they did when Munoz signed for Liverpool in a £34.6 million deal.
It is entirely plausible that Liverpool are keeping tabs on a 24-year-old midfielder with more than 150 senior appearances, especially as he has featured on the right wing in his career.
But it is unlikely to be a priority focus for the club, with Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, among others, capable of being deployed as an attacking midfielder.
Perhaps one to watch, however.
