Chelsea aim to secure Pep Chavarria’s transfer, as per recent news. The Blues are looking forward to signing the Spanish defender for the upcoming season.
Chavarria to join Stamford Bridge next year?
As reported by CaughtOffSide, the West London club have put the 28-year-old left back from Rayo Vallecano as one of their top transfer targets. Chavarria has a contract with Vallecano that will expire in 2030. Naturally, the club wouldn’t like to let him out that easily. However, it will be equally difficult to turn down the Chelsea offer.
Chavarria joined Rayo Vallecano in 2022. Before that, he played for Zaragoza between 2020 and 2022. Previously, he played for Olot between 2018 and 2020.

Benefits of Pep Chavarria’s potential Chelsea entry
Chelsea are showing interest in Chavarria at the right time. He performed well for Rayo Vallecano last year. He also played a crucial role in the team’s performance at the UEFA Conference League. Vallecano also finished in 8th place in the La Liga. Probably that’s why he can fill up the slot left by fellow Spanish player Marc Cucurella. The left-back played for Chelsea since 2022. However, he eventually decided to try his luck in Real Madrid. He was signed by the Spanish club for a total package of €60 million. Cucurella officially joined Santiago Bernabeu on July 1.
The West London club is undergoing a significant transformation under new manager Xabi Alonso. He wants to change the team’s fortunes in the upcoming season. While the Blues reached the finals of FA Cup and won their second Club FIFA World Cup, they also finished in a disappointing 10th position in the Premier League. That’s the reason he is specifically working on the team’s two biggest concerns : the defense blocks and the attacking lineup.
Future gameplan of Pep Chavarria
Chavarria is currently focusing on preparing for the next footballseason. He is not a part of the Spanish squad playing in the current FIFA World Cup. He was named initially in the preliminary Spanish team. However, he couldn’t make it to the final squad announced by head coach Luis de la Fuente on May 25.
However, Chavarria is not too disappointed by the same. If he agrees to join Chelsea, he would get a golden opportunity to showcase his talent on one of the biggest stages of club football. However, before that, he needs to address some issues. Chavarria doesn’t need to worry much about his fitness. However, he does need to work on his discipline. He was handed a red card last season in La Liga. If he wants to enter Chelsea, he needs to keep his cool in intense situations.
Chelsea aim to return to winning ways by the upcoming season. Xabi Alonso is working on an effective strategy to address any gaps in the same. One of the main reasons behind Chelsea’s average performance last year was the lack of a permanent manager. Ever since Enzo Maresca left the West London club, the Blues have seen three managers trying their luck between January 2026 and May 2026. Unfortunately, their plans didn’t work out. However, with the appointment of Xabi Alonso, the Blues are hopeful of turning things around. If Chavarria joins the team by next season, the defense problem can be solved to some extent.
