Roma have made an enquiry for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

Posting on his X account, Pedulla said that the Blues have yet to make a decision on the Argentinian international’s future, but the Giallorossi are among his suitors:

“Garnacho: the Roma poll is confirmed. For now, that’s it. The profile is very much liked. Chelsea will decide (not in these days) whether to loan him out or transfer him.”

“And Roma might be open to any solution. Garnacho plays on the left; he shouldn’t be confused with any potential developments for [Mason] Greenwood.”

Garnacho had a poor first season at Stamford Bridge

Despite scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists in 44 appearances last campaign, the 22-year-old struggled to establish himself as a first team regular, especially in the Premier League.

Garnacho only started 14 league games, finding the back of the net just once, during the 2-1 home defeat to Sunderland back in October.

A lot more was expected of the forward after the club spent £40m to bring him in from Manchester United last August.

Are Chelsea willing to cut their losses already?

Some reports have suggested that the recruitment team are open to offloading Garnacho, but the appointment of Xabi Alonso has likely altered the club’s plans.

The Spaniard will have the final say on any incomings and outgoings, and it may well be the case that the delay in responding to Roma’s enquiry is down to the manager wanting to have a closer look at the player during pre-season.

If Alonso is favouring a 3-4-3 system, there might not be room for someone like Garnacho in his squad. The reported interest in Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi suggests there will be a preference for hybrid forwards, who can be deployed as either no.10s or no.9s.
