Italian side Cagliari have confirmed the signing of former Everton midfielder Ademide Akarakiri.
The 18-year-old showed glimpses of promise for the Blues’ Under-18s and Under-21s last season but rejected new terms put forward by the club this summer.
The teenager has instead moved to Sardinia to sign for the Serie A side, which spent much of last season scouting him.
Akarikiri rose through the ranks of Arsenal’s academy before moving to Everton two seasons ago. He was part of a promising batch of U18s at Finch Farm and impressed last year, including when stepping up to the U21s in competitions such as the Premier League International Cup.
Everton had hoped to keep the youngster beyond this summer and offered him new terms, only for Akarakiri to opt to instead move to Cagliari.
The club confirmed his arrival on Saturday, describing him as “one of the most exciting prospects of his generation”.
Cagliari added: “A promising player, Akarakiri joins the Rossoblu to embark on a development journey with the goal of further developing his talent and guiding him through the transition to professional football.”
