Nathan Patterson has reflected on living his dream by representing Scotland at the World Cup.
The Everton defender played in all three group games, starting against Brazil and Morocco and coming off the bench during the win over Haiti.
It was a landmark moment for the 24-year-old, whose recent career has been blighted by injuries. He missed out on Scotland’s involvement in the 2024 Euros as a result.
Taking to Instagram to look back at his experience in the US, Patterson wrote: “Even a week later it still doesn’t feel real. Every kid’s dream is to play for their country at the World Cup. To have done that, it’s a feeling I will never forget.
“The support from the whole country at home and abroad won’t be forgotten either. The best fans in the world. We will be back.”
Scotland’s long-awaited return to the World Cup ended in disappointment as the side exited at the group stage but it remained an important moment for Patterson, whose career is at a crossroads this summer.
The defender is on one of his longest stints of being fit since he signed for Everton in January 2022 but did not start a game after the January win at Aston Villa, despite impressing in that match and with the Blues struggling at right back throughout the campaign.
With one year left on his contract and Everton actively searching for a right back, his Blues future is uncertain and he has been the subject of interest since the end of the season.
