Virgil van Dijk has been mentioned as an option to bolster Milan’s defence this summer, adding experience, but these rumours have now been squashed.
In addition to Mario Gila, whose arrival could be secured early last week, Ruben Amorim wants to reinforce the defence with another centre-back. Several targets are on the wish lish, such as Antonio Silva, Goncalo Inacio and Victor Valdepeñas.

The Liverpool veteran van Dijk has also been mentioned, with the main pro being that he would add experience and consistent quality. However, as has been made clear from the start, freeing him from Liverpool is no easy task.
Liverpool put their foot down
According to The Athletic reporter James Pearce, van Dijk is ‘going nowhere’ this summer as Andoni Iraola sees him as a key player in the project. Even if the player wanted to leave, Liverpool have no intention of accepting any offers.
A move to Milan, as such, can pretty much be ruled out. The good news is that there are several other names on the wish list, as highlighted above, so Amorim should have no issues finding the right man for his project. The question is how big the budget will be.
