Jeremy Monga is at the heart of one of this summer’s biggest transfer stories, and although Arsenal have been strongly linked for weeks, the latest news points to Manchester City making a serious move for the highly rated Leicester City teenager.
The Jeremy Monga Race Intensifies
As reported by BBC Sport, Jeremy Monga has caught the eye of several clubs across English football this summer, with Arsenal and Brentford both credited with tracking him. Talks between the Gunners and Leicester have reportedly moved further along than those involving any other interested party. Manchester City, however, have followed the winger’s progress closely for some time now. Word of fresh contact between the two clubs has emerged in the past few days. City have weighed up a move internally before reaching out to Leicester.
Timing is adding to the pressure. His scholarship terms will likely convert into a full professional deal later this month. Once that happens, no club can simply wait for a better moment, since a fee becomes payable no matter who eventually signs him. Sources close to the talks put Leicester’s asking price at £10m, a number that has reportedly given Arsenal something to consider.
Statistically, few academy prospects break through this early. Jeremy Monga has already racked up 37 senior appearances for Leicester. As reported by Yahoo Sports, only Arsenal’s Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri were younger on their debut than him in the Premier League history.
Why Arsenal Have Stalled for the Teenager?
As reported by TEAMtalk, recent news suggests Arsenal’s interest never went away. But the fee has become a real sticking point. Leicester are standing firm on their price. The two sides have held long talks, yet no breakthrough has followed. That has opened the door for other clubs to step in.
Brentford were credited with interest earlier in the window too. City, though, appear to be the more serious threat right now. As reported by FootballTransfers, Manchester City’s move gained pace once Enzo Maresca got involved. He worked with the winger during his time at Leicester and rates him highly. That personal connection could prove decisive.
For Arsenal, missing out would be a setback. They were seen as front-runners for much of the process. Even so, nothing has been finalised yet. A fresh offer before any deal is done cannot be ruled out.
What Jeremy Monga Brings to the Table
On the pitch, Jeremy Monga is one of the most exciting teenage wingers to come through an academy in years. He plays mainly on the left but can also play on the right. His close control and pace make him a constant threat in one-on-one duels. He can also strike the ball well from distance, though there are questions over how quickly he adapts to the physical demands of senior football.

If the Citizens do land their man, he would join a club known for developing young talent with patience. That approach favours steady progress over rushing players into senior football. That could suit someone who is only 16 and still has time to grow, both physically and mentally.
Whichever club wins the race, few would argue against the teenager being one of the most exciting young talents in the country. His rise from academy graduate to £10m subject has been fast. Given his age and ability, it does not look like slowing down soon.
