Tottenham still have several areas in the squad to reinforce.
Tottenham Hotspur have been full of intent in the summer transfer window, trying to provide head coach Roberto De Zerbi with the tools required to compete for the Champions League spots next season.
After signing five players, Spurs have flexed their financial muscle by agreeing a £100 million deal with Newcastle United for Sandro Tonali. With Fernandes and Tonali set to bolster our midfield at White Hart Lane, the club bosses have quickly shifted their attention to addressing problems up top.
Roberto De Zerbi is keen to add pace, energy and dynamism on the flanks, especially after losing Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons to long-term knee injuries. It has been reported in recent months that Tottenham are among several clubs keeping tabs on FC Koln winger Said El Mala. He enjoyed a strong breakout season in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 34 appearances.
Tottenham sent warning over Said El Mala pursuit
Several European clubs are paying close attention to Said El Mala’s development. He has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool recently entering the race for the Germany Under-21 international’s signature.
As interest in the dynamic winger grows, reputable German journalist Christian Falk has now sent a warning to El Mala’s suitors. He insists that the FC Koln talent, who plays a bit like Kingsley Coman, is not a finished product and is not yet ready for a step up to a club like Liverpool.
“There is always Premier League interest in Said El Mala. I think Liverpool is a step too high for this player at this stage in his development,” Christian Falk said on CF Bayern Insider.
“He has quality, but this isn’t so big that you can compare him at the moment with Yan Diomande. I think he will make the step to the Premier League – a league he’s a big fan of – but if it’s Liverpool, I have doubts.”
Falk’s warning over signing El Mala may have been for Liverpool, but it should concern Tottenham as well, because we are trying to build a squad capable of challenging the top clubs in the Premier League. FC Koln are wary that they would not be able to keep hold of the youngster for long, given the growing interest in the German winger.
As far as Spurs are concerned, it recently emerged that we are yet to make ‘any concrete efforts’ to sign the Koln starlet. After Falk’s revelation, the N17 bosses may decide to hold their horses and concentrate on other targets in wide areas.
