Arsenal clear path for blockbuster signing after agreeing £17m sale

Arsenal have given the green light to the sale of one of their key forwards.

According to The Athletic, Besiktas have agreed a €20 million (£17.1m) deal with Arsenal to sign Leandro Trossard.

The Gunners were prepared to listen to offers for the Belgian winger as he entered the final year of his current contract.

Manager Mikel Arteta is eager to reshape his attack this summer, making room for a marquee wide forward a top priority.

Although Trossard has served Arsenal brilliantly, the club believe further upgrades are essential if they are to remain at the pinnacle of English and European football.

Bradley Barcola and Morgan Rogers are two blockbuster wingers currently eyed by the London outfit.

He has made 174 appearances for Arsenal after arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023 for around £27m.

Trossard followed that with the most prolific Premier League season of his career, scoring 12 goals in just 34 league appearances.

His role has gradually diminished over the past 18 months, but he consistently delivered whenever Arsenal needed him most.

His dramatic winner against West Ham United on 10 May remains one of the defining moments of Arsenal’s title-winning campaign, arriving when Manchester City were piling intense pressure on the Gunners.

Despite being 31 years old, Trossard still has the quality and experience to become a huge signing for Besiktas.

Arsenal will also be delighted to recover around £17m for a player who could otherwise have left for nothing next summer.

The Turkish giants must now agree personal terms with Trossard, although negotiations may have to wait until Belgium complete their FIFA World Cup campaign.
