Curtis Jones transfer news: Forest test Liverpool’s resolve with audacious move for Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones transfer news: Nottingham Forest have opened talks with Liverpool over a deal for Curtis Jones. It is a bold, unexpected move. Oliver Glasner is the man driving it, arriving at the City Ground on a massive £13 million-a-year contract until 2029. He needs to fill a massive void. Elliot Anderson is gone, shipped off to Manchester City in a staggering, club-record £116 million deal.
The money is there. Flush with cash, Forest moved quickly, targeting the 25-year-old Scouser within days of Anderson’s exit. But wanting a player and getting him are two very different things. (Via GOAL)
The Anfield stance and the player’s reluctance
Liverpool aren’t in the mood to do favours. Michael Edwards and the FSG hierarchy have slapped a firm £35 million to £40 million price tag on the midfielder. Inter Milan already tried their luck, seeing a £21 million bid rejected out of hand. The Italian champions are now ready to walk away because Anfield won’t budge. Forest can pay the money, but Jones himself is the real hurdle.
He flatly does not want the move.
The local lad has been on the books since 2018. He loves the club. Dropping down to a side that barely survived relegation last term is a massive gamble, especially for a player with six England caps who wants to stay in the international picture. Arsenal and Aston Villa are also sniffing around, offering Champions League football that Forest simply cannot compete with right now.
Jones made 49 appearances under Arne Slot last season, scoring three times and assisting thrice. Useful depth, but 20 of those came off the bench. He never quite locked down a permanent starting spot. Slot is gone now, and Andoni Iraola is through the door. Jones is due back at the AXA Training Centre for pre-season, keen to see where he stands in the Basque manager’s plans.
His tactical flexibility makes him incredibly attractive. Last year, he filled in at right-back and played across three different midfield roles. Glasner loves that kind of adaptability. The Austrian manager arrives with a huge reputation, having won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace in 2025 and the Conference League in 2026.

Evangelos Marinakis clearly means business, though his methods remain cutthroat. Vitor Pereira found that out the hard way, sacked despite taking Forest to a Europa League semi-final; their best continental run since 1984. Pereira admitted he was shocked and saddened by the sudden dismissal. It is a volatile environment. Glasner has the financial backing, but turning the head of a boy who grew up dreaming only of Anfield is a completely different challenge.
