Liverpool still have considerable business to complete in the transfer window this summer. Since the Reds secured the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna last month, progress on arrivals and departures has largely ground to a halt.
Andoni Iraola's side acted swiftly to land the Spanish winger, who is presently representing Spain at the World Cup. French defender Jeremy Jacquet has also formally joined the Reds, having put pen to paper in January on a transfer from Rennes valued at approximately £60million.
Nevertheless, there's no escaping the fact that Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande's choice to sign for Paris Saint-Germain instead of the Reds has dealt a significant blow to their transfer strategy. Today's developments see Real Madrid reach a decision on a long-standing Reds target, while former manager Jurgen Klopp breaks his silence on his future role.

Klopp confirms talks
Klopp says he doesn't anticipate Red Bull blocking his path to becoming the next Germany manager after confirming discussions are taking place to succeed Julian Nagelsmann.
Nagelsmann promptly resigned from his role after Germany crashed out of the World Cup on penalties against Paraguay on Monday.
The former Liverpool boss, who currently serves as Red Bull's global head of soccer, has been attending the World Cup as a pundit for German broadcaster Magenta. Speaking on television, he insisted that his present employers would not obstruct his ambition to take charge of his nation.
"Yes, I can confirm the talks," Klopp told Magenta. "Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB (German FA) are looking for a successor. And they're talking to me.

"What needs to happen now? Time. I'm under contract with Red Bull. I've said I'm interested in the talks. They will be intensive because this isn't only about Julian Nagelsmann.
"I have an existing contract with Red Bull. I've said many times how much I enjoy this job. As a person, I usually honour contracts. But I've also made it clear that I'm interested in talks with the DFB.
"I also have to speak with (Red Bull CEO) Oliver Mintzlaff. He's my employer. We've already touched on a few things. I assume he won't stand in the way. I've been there for 19 months. It was an intense time. I'm ready. Once the talks begin, your mind starts racing. We have to change things fundamentally.
"There will have to be intensive discussions, because, of course, the problems we currently have cannot be pinned only on Julian Nagelsmann. Julian is an exceptional coach, and he will be able to prove that time and again throughout his coaching career."
Real Madrid make call on transfer
It appears probable that Aurelien Tchouameni will remain at Madrid this summer. The combative midfielder has been associated with a switch to Liverpool for quite some time amid persistent suggestions he could depart Los Blancos.
As early as 2022, former Reds manager Klopp reportedly sought to bring the Frenchman to Anfield. Last month, it was reported, via TEAMtalk, that Liverpool were confident they could secure the player this summer.

However, new Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, who is in his second stint at Los Blancos, has reportedly halted any potential departure. TEAMtalk claims that, despite attention from Liverpool and Man Utd, Tchouameni will remain at Madrid.
The report suggests that the 26-year-old, who has been a crucial component of Madrid's achievements in recent years, "will be given the opportunity to establish himself as a guaranteed starter next season."
