Anthony Gordon agent demands huge fee after £70m Newcastle United transfer to Barcelona

Barcelona gazumped Bayern Munich to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

Barcelona reportedly stumped up £20million in agent fees as part of the Anthony Gordon transfer.

Newcastle United acted quickly to shift Gordon following the Premier League season. Toon CEO David Hopkinson made it publicly clear that another Alexander Isak saga would be avoided.

Barca stumped up an initial £70million to sign Gordon, with all parties keen to secure a deal before the World Cup. It is understood that this figure could rise depending on how the 25-year-old performs at the Camp Nou.

Hefty agent fee

Spanish media claim Barcelona paid far more than just the transfer fee to pip Bayern Munich to his signature. According to RAC1, a Catalan radio station, around £20million in agent fees were required.

This would bring the deal closer to the £90million mark - before any performance-related add-ons. Gordon will also earn a staggering £300,000 per week as a Barca player.

As ambitious as Newcastle are, these figures drill home how difficult it is to compete with Europe’s elite. The Magpies are now focused on incomings after also allowing Sandro Tonali to join Tottenham Hotspur for £100million.

Anthony Gordon message to Newcastle United fans

In a farewell address to Newcastle fans, Gordon said: “I owe this club a lot because, when I arrived, I was quite lost both in life and in football. The club has given me a sense of belonging and a sense of identity.

“It’s allowed me to do what I always thought I could do. It has put me on the biggest stage and allowed me to perform for the shirt. Since coming to the club, I feel I’ve improved a lot on the pitch but this club has played a big part in the person I’ve become over the last three-and-a-half years.

“It was really important for me to leave this place in a good way because I’ve loved every single minute of being a part of Newcastle United. This is an incredible club and one that I’ll never forget. I’ll be a fan for the rest of my life.”
