The first World Cup quarter-final is confirmed after Saturday saw the opening round of 16 matches played. Hosts Canada bowed out after losing to Morocco, and the African side, who reached the semi-finals four years ago, will now play favourites France, who beat Paraguay 1-0.

England will bid to seal their place in the last eight when they face Mexico in the Azteca Stadium in the early hours of Monday morning. The game kicks off at 1am on Monday morning and will be shown live on BBC Sport.

That kick-off time is now confirmed after reports on Friday of the tie potentially being moved to an earlier slot amid the possibility of thunder and lightning.

The winners of England's tie with Mexico will play the winners of Brazil's match with Norway, which kicks off at 9pm tonight.

That game will take place on Saturday with a 10pm kick-off UK time.

Should England move into the semi-finals, they could meet Argentina. Lionel Messi's side face Egypt in the last-16, with the winners then playing either Colombia or Switzerland in the quarter-finals before a potential meeting with the Three Lions in the last four.

On the other side of the draw, the winners of France vs Morocco will play a semi-final against one of Spain, Portugal, Belgium or the United States.
