Newcastle United close in on signing of Liverpool target

Newcastle United have endured frustrating transfer windows in recent times, with several of their top targets ending up elsewhere despite the club’s growing financial muscle and ambitious long-term project.

Liverpool have been one of the biggest obstacles to the Magpies in recent seasons. The Reds have won the race for highly-rated talent on more than one occasion, leaving Eddie Howe’s side to reassess their options as they look to strengthen ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

After most recently missing out on Victor Munoz to Liverpool, Newcastle United have been forced to move quickly in pursuit of alternative targets, with the club determined not to let another promising young player escape.

The recruitment team continued to scour Europe for emerging talent and now appear to have secured a key target.

According to German outlet Kicker, Newcastle United have now got their man, with Bazoumana Toure set to complete a move from Hoffenheim.

The report states that the deal has been finalised and an official announcement is now imminent.

Formalities have been completed, while the 50million euro transfer fee will make the 20-year-old Hoffenheim’s record sale.

Toure only joined the Bundesliga side in January 2025 but quickly established himself as one of Germany’s most exciting young attackers.

Across 43 Bundesliga appearances, the versatile forward showcased the pace, flair and directness that attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

Liverpool were among the Premier League sides recently linked with Toure. However, Newcastle also identified the youngster as an ideal option after missing out on Munoz.

Landing Toure would therefore represent an important statement from Newcastle after seeing Liverpool come out on top in previous transfer battles.

Rather than dwelling on those setbacks, the Magpies have acted decisively to secure one of the Bundesliga’s brightest young prospects.

With the official confirmation now expected imminently, Newcastle look set to complete one of the standout deals of their summer, while Liverpool continue to explore alternative attacking additions after missing out on Yan Diomande and being faced with a real struggle in pursuing Bradley Barcola.
