**Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has been mentioned as a midfield option for Liverpool this summer, and journalist Pete O’Rourke has now dropped a key update.**
The 22-year-old is one of the most talented young players in the country, with many feeling he was unlucky not to make England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
Wharton has been linked with a move to Liverpool many times in the last few months, potentially being seen as someone to add quality and depth to a key area.
Speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/crystal-palace-fc/crystal-palace-confident-over-adam-wharton-after-liverpool-twist), O’Rourke claimed that talk over the Reds signing the Englishman has cooled, with Palace possibly keeping one of their most important players:
_“Obviously Palace don’t want to lose one of their best players after losing the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi in recent years. It’s gone quiet on him, to be honest. Obviously there were early links with Liverpool and everything else._
_“But with Andoni Iraola coming in I’m not sure that Adam Wharton would be a top target for the Spaniard because of the style of play he put in place at Bournemouth. We’ve seen other clubs be busy in the market with midfielders. Obviously Spurs were linked with Wharton but now it looks like they’re getting deals done from Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali._
_“Palace are in box seat here, he’s under contract and obviously if other midfield targets are being signed by other clubs then it might see Wharton stay at Selhurst Park.”_
**Is Adam Wharton Liverpool’s strongest midfield target?**
----------------------------------------------------------
Missing out on Wharton would be a shame for Liverpool, considering the control he brings in midfield, threading passes between the lines and working impressively off the ball.
He has to be considered one of the best options for the Reds in the middle of the park, not least because of his long-term potential, and they will do well to sign someone at his level.
That’s not to say there aren’t other great options out there, though, and if Wharton ends up staying at Palace, or joins another club for that matter, attention must turn elsewhere.
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is a player who Andoni Iraola knows well, and he could be a great addition, with Monaco’s Lamine Camara also a player with the ability to excel at Anfield.
