Tottenham learn asking price of 27-year-old Liverpool forward who impressed at the 2026 World…

Tottenham are looking to reinforce their forward options ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Tottenham Hotspur, who have finished 17th in the Premier League table for the past two seasons, have already signed Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke and Mateus Fernandes this summer. We have also struck a club-record £100million deal with Newcastle United for Sandro Tonali.

Spurs are now focusing on reinforcements up front, with several options on the club’s radar. Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has been linked with a move to Tottenham since the start of the summer. The 27-year-old was one of the few to impress for the Netherlands at the World Cup, bagging three goals and an assist in four appearances. However, the Netherlands exited the World Cup at the hands of Morocco in the Round of 32 earlier this week.

Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Spurs’ pursuit of Cody Gakpo a few days ago. He revealed that while the Lilywhites do hold an interest in the player, nothing is advanced at this stage and no contact has been made with Liverpool. The transfer news guru also told the Tottenham fans to keep an eye on the Reds’ star.

Liverpool’s asking price for Cody Gakpo revealed

Now, GIVEMESPORT’s senior correspondent Ben Jacobs has made a revelation on Gakpo. He claims that Liverpool do not have a desire to sell the Dutch star and would only consider an exit if an astronomical offer arrives.

“Cody Gakpo is a name on Tottenham’s list. Liverpool have no real desire to sell. If anyone wants to do business, they are going to point towards the Anthony Gordon £70m move to Barcelona. The player has not told Liverpool he wants to leave, as of today,” Ben Jacobs said on talkSPORT.

“The market is inflated and Liverpool have a very high asking price for Cody Gakpo. The player also, despite reports in the Netherlands, hasn’t, at the time of recording, told Liverpool that he wants to leave, but Spurs might be one to watch.”

Should Spurs make a move for Gakpo?

Gakpo has had a mixed time at Liverpool since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. The versatile attacker has scored 50 goals and registered 23 assists in 180 appearances for the Reds. He played a key role in the Merseyside club’s Premier League title success during the 2024/25 season, where the 27-year-old bagged 10 goals and five assists in 35 appearances.

The Netherlands international’s form dipped last season, yet he remains a quality player who can make a huge difference for De Zerbi’s Tottenham side. Gakpo’s flexibility across the frontline, genuine goal threat and Premier League experience could see him lock the left-wing spot in this Spurs side.

However, £70m will be too steep for him. If Tottenham can negotiate that price down to £60m, it would represent a good deal. As the summer transfer window progresses, the player’s future will be one to keep an eye on.
