Liverpool’s search for a long-term solution on the right wing has produced plenty of transfer speculation.
Names such as Bradley Barcola, Yan Diomandé and others have dominated the headlines, but one player who perhaps deserves more discussion is Pedro Neto.
If Liverpool are looking for a proven Premier League attacker who can make an immediate impact, Neto certainly has a strong case.
A Different Profile
Pedro Neto is not an emerging prospect.
At 26 years old, he is entering the peak years of his career.
That brings obvious advantages.
Liverpool would be signing a player who already understands the demands of English football rather than someone who requires a lengthy adaptation period.
For a squad looking to compete immediately, that experience carries real value.
What Neto Would Bring
When fully fit, Neto possesses many of the qualities Liverpool have traditionally valued in wide forwards.
His strengths include:
● Explosive pace.
● Direct dribbling.
● Excellent crossing ability.
● Creativity in transition.
● High work rate.
He is the type of winger who likes to attack defenders rather than simply recycle possession, something Liverpool supporters have often wanted to see more consistently.
A Good Fit for Iraola?
Andoni Iraola’s football is built around intensity, quick transitions and attacking space before opponents can reorganise.
Those principles appear well suited to Neto’s game.
He is at his most dangerous when driving forward at speed and exploiting gaps in the opposition defence.
It is easy to imagine him thriving in a system that encourages direct attacking football.
The Injury Question
There is, however, one major concern.
Neto’s injury record cannot be ignored.
Throughout his career he has missed significant periods through injury, interrupting what might otherwise have been even greater development.
Liverpool have experienced enough injury frustrations in recent seasons to know how disruptive recurring fitness problems can become.
Any move would therefore require careful consideration of both his medical history and long-term durability.
Is He the Right Long-Term Choice?
There is also the question of strategy.
Liverpool have increasingly focused on signing younger players with long-term resale value.
Neto would represent a slightly different approach.
Rather than investing in potential, the club would be investing in a player ready to contribute immediately.
Neither strategy is necessarily right or wrong.
It simply depends on Liverpool’s priorities.
My Verdict
If Liverpool could sign Pedro Neto at a sensible price, I think he would be an excellent addition.
His quality is beyond doubt.
He has already shown he can perform in the Premier League, and his style appears well suited to the football Iraola is expected to implement.
The only genuine concern is whether he can remain consistently available.
If Liverpool’s medical staff were satisfied with his condition, I believe Neto would strengthen the squad immediately.
He may not generate the same excitement as some of the younger names linked with the club, but sometimes proven quality is exactly what a team needs.
And Pedro Neto certainly has the talent to make a real difference at Anfield.
