Powerhouse midfielder Chelsea decision made after Blues summer offers!

Granit Xhaka has reportedly decided against joining Chelsea this summer, opting instead to remain at Sunderland despite sustained interest from the Stamford Bridge club and the prospect of reuniting with former manager Xabi Alonso.

The Switzerland international had emerged as one of Chelsea’s surprise transfer targets following Alonso’s arrival, with the Blues identifying the experienced midfielder as a player capable of adding leadership and composure to their squad.

CHELSEA were understood to have submitted an opening offer for the 34-year-old, but Sunderland rejected the bid, insisting their captain was not for sale.

In recent days, reports suggested Xhaka had been considering the move, with speculation claiming he was keen to work with Alonso again after their successful spell together at Bayer Leverkusen.

However, multiple outlets now report the midfielder has made a U-turn and informed those close to the negotiations that he intends to remain on Wearside.

Xhaka joined Sunderland from Bayer Leverkusen last summer and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most influential figures. He captained Régis Le Bris’ side to an impressive seventh-place Premier League finish and secured qualification for the UEFA Europa League, cementing his status as a fan favourite and dressing-room leader.

Chelsea’s interest was driven largely by Alonso, who worked closely with Xhaka during Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga-winning campaign. The Spaniard is believed to value the Swiss international’s tactical intelligence, experience and leadership qualities as he reshapes Chelsea’s squad ahead of the new season.

Despite the attraction of a reunion, reports indicate Sunderland’s sporting project and the opportunity to captain the club in European competition ultimately convinced Xhaka to stay.

The Black Cats have consistently maintained that they had no intention of selling one of their most important players and viewed Chelsea’s initial approach as insufficient.

The decision represents a setback for CHELSEA, who are expected to turn their attention to alternative midfield targets as they continue strengthening Alonso’s squad before the transfer window closes.

While the London club could yet revisit the deal with an improved offer, the latest reports suggest Xhaka’s preference is now to remain at the Stadium of Light.

Xhaka is currently away on international duty with Switzerland, with any official comment on his club future likely to wait until the conclusion of his World Cup commitments
