Barcelona left to rue missed opportunity for €25m transfer windfall

Barcelona have done well to move on unwanted players so far this summer, but they have failed to bring in significant transfer fees. They managed to get €11m and €3m from selling Ansu Fati and Inaki Pena respectively, although they will struggled to bring in more than €25m for anyone except Marc Casado, unless they decide to part ways with one of their regular starters, such as Jules Kounde or Alejandro Balde.

Because of this, Barcelona will hope to receive extra funds from some of their former players leaving, for whom they have significant sell-on clauses. However, one that previously fell under this category but no longer does is Francisco Trincao, and that has turned out to be a massive blow for the Catalan club.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that [Sporting CP were preparing to sell Trincao this summer](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/barcelona-to-potentially-miss-out-on-e25m-as-sporting-look-to-offload-former-winger/), and [Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/2073779503755599910?s=20) has now revealed that they are in talks with Al Ahli over a deal that could fetch them as much as €50m.

As part of their deal to sell Trincao in 2023, Barcelona received €7m and also retained a 50% sell-on clause. However, they sold this last summer for another €11m as part of their efforts to bring funds in at a time when they were desperately needed, although that cost them the chance to earn an additional €14m, should Al Ahli end up finalising a deal for €50m.

Understandably, a lot of Barcelona fans have reacted with disappointment at the news that Trincao could be set to move for €50m, given that the club no longer has their 50% sell-on clause. However, it will be mitigated by the fact they are back within La Liga’s 1:1 rule, meaning they will be able to do significant transfer business this summer.
