Dayot Upamecano delivers further blow to Michael Olise pursuit

Liverpool’s hopes of pulling off a near-impossible blockbuster move for Michael Olise this summer has suffered another setback after fresh comments from one of the winger’s closest teammates.

The Reds have been heavily linked with the France international, while Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest as speculation over his future continues to intrigue the masses.

However, the latest update appears to have poured further cold water on the prospect of Michael Olise leaving the Bundesliga champions anytime soon.

Speaking after France’s latest World Cup victory over Paraguay that secured their place in this year’s Round of 16, Bayern Munich defender and Olise’s international teammate Dayot Upamecano was asked about the growing rumours linking the winger with a move to Real Madrid.

Asked whether he had told Olise to remain at Bayern, Upamecano gave a brief but emphatic response accompanied with a smile: “He’s staying, he’s staying.”

While the comment was delivered in a light-hearted post-match interview, it is nevertheless another indication that those closest to the 24-year-old are expecting him to remain in Munich for the foreseeable future.

That will come as a disappointment to Liverpool supporters, who have continued to see Olise linked with a move to Anfield despite Bayern having little obvious incentive to cash in.

The France international enjoyed an outstanding campaign, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking players.

Of course, players are rarely the ultimate authority when it comes to transfer business, and football has a habit of producing surprises before the window closes.

Nevertheless, the confidence with which Upamecano dismissed the speculation will do little to encourage clubs hoping Bayern’s stance might soften.

All signs continue to point towards Michael Olise remaining in Germany, leaving Liverpool to explore alternative options if they are to adequately strengthen their attacking department ahead of next season.
