Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler appears to have hinted that he wants to return to the club as a coach this summer after he replied to a post on social media.

Andoni Iraola took over from Arne Slot as head coach a few weeks ago, with Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper joining the Reds as first-team coaches, Pablo de la Torre has arrived as an assistant coach, and Tom Webber having been appointed first-team tactical analyst.

But in response to a post about Thiago Alcantara saying he wasn't qualified enough to take on a role at the top level, Fowler replied: "I wonder who's qualified, hmmmmm."

"When the Liverpool job came up, were you interested or not?" Thiago was asked by Rio Ferdinand on his podcast this week.

The Spaniard simply replied: "No man, I don’t have the badges. I don’t have enough to be a coach."

Thiago has already worked as a coach at Barcelona, though he isn't necessarily ready to take on the main role. Liverpool will return for pre-season later this month.

"I think it’s something born inside of me in terms of being a coach," Thiago added. "In my last year at Liverpool, just because I wasn’t able to play, so I was trying to help even more.

"Not being selfish in any kind of situation, just helping, being in the back of others, how I can make them grow."

Iraola will begin working with his new squad shortly, with the countdown to the new Premier League season having already begun. The Reds travel to Newcastle on August 23.

"We are in this process of building the best staff we can," Iraola said when he arrived. "Now for me, the most important thing is to also know and get into a rhythm with the people that were already here working.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"Sometimes they don't appear on TV; with all the analysts, the performance guys, all the people that really are in touch with the players every day.

"I think they are going to be very, very valuable for us. It's true that it's going to be new staff, new people coming in.

"But I would like also to value a lot the ones that have been here working for the club with these players, that are really the ones that will help us more at the beginning."
