Arsenal now confident of matching asking price for 'world-class' target - report

Arsenal are now confident that they will be able to secure the signature of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the summer transfer window.

Reports have emerged that the Gunners are ready to step up their efforts to sign Guimaraes in the transfer window, after seeing a £55m bid rejected previously.

The Magpies understandably don't want to sell the Brazilian midfielder to Arsenal, considering Sandro Tonali already looks set to be heading to Tottenham.

That hasn't stopped Arsenal pushing, however, as they aim to secure the signature of the World Cup midfielder.

So unlikely that a deal will take place before the end of Brazil's World Cup campaign, as the Newcastle man is distracted by the tournament at the moment.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are confident that they will be able to produce an offer that satisfies Newcastle's demands for Guimaraes in the transfer window.

The Gunners are pushing to bring in a new midfielder, and Guimaraes does appear to be one of their priority targets.

After rejecting Arsenal's bid of around £55 million, it will be interesting to see how high the North London club will go for the Brazilian.

Guimaraes, who has been described as 'world-class', is arguably Newcastle's best player, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they looked for a similar fee to what Tottenham are paying for Tonali.

Tonali looks set to make the move to Spurs for a fee in the region of £100m. That means Arsenal would nearly have to double their original Guimaraes offer if they are looking for a similar fee.

Guimaraes turns 29 later in the year, so Arsenal need to ensure they don't go too high when it comes to paying for the Newcastle midfielder.

The Gunners will struggle to get a return on their investment for the Brazilian international, so they'll have to be confident that he makes a significant impact.

They'll struggle to sell the former Lyon midfielder for a profit in the future, so it's no surprise that they only offered £55m.

Unfortunately for the Gunners, Newcastle are never going to accept that sort of fee for Guimaraes. It will be very interesting to see how high Arsenal will go in the coming weeks.
