Rafael Leao’s name is [once again being linked with FC Barcelona](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/barcelona-willing-to-entertain-ac-milan-stars-arrival-on-one-condition/), and Monday’s World Cup clash between Portugal and Spain could become a useful showcase.
The Milan winger has not been a guaranteed starter for Portugal, but he played the full match against Croatia and assisted Goncalo Ramos’ late goal.
According to [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20260705/1004203058/mejor-escaparate-leao.html), reports in Italy claim new Milan coach Ruben Amorim does not count on Leao, while Barcelona have asked about his situation.
Tottenham and Saudi clubs are also said to be attentive, but Barca’s interest is notable given their long search for a left-wing profile in recent years.
Leao will face Spain in the round of 16, and that makes the timing interesting. Deco is in the United States and is expected to watch several World Cup matches live.
If Leao starts, he could face one of the most demanding wings of the tournament, with Pedro Porro likely at right-back and Lamine Yamal ahead of him.
That matters because Leao’s defensive work has often been questioned. Against Spain, he would have the chance to show discipline as well as attacking power.
From a Barcelona perspective, the talent is obvious. Leao has pace, strength, dribbling, and the ability to break matches open from the left.
The problem is the price. Milan could reportedly ask for €60 million to €70 million, which is far from comfortable for Barca after signing Anthony Gordon and while still targeting Julian Alvarez.
A loan with an obligation to buy may be explored, but this remains complicated.
Leao is the type of player who can tempt any club. Barcelona should watch carefully, but only move if the financial structure makes real sense.
