Newcastle United officially sign Bazoumana Toure

Liverpool were watching.

Manchester United were watching.

And while both clubs were still running their calculations, Newcastle United moved decisively, swiftly, and without hesitation.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly rated winger Bazoumana Toure from TSG Hoffenheim on a long-term deal worth around £42 million.

The move sees one of Liverpool’s reported attacking targets head to St. James’ Park as Eddie Howe strengthens his squad with one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

Toure becomes Newcastle’s second senior arrival of the summer following the addition of French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen earlier in the week.

But this one carries a different kind of energy.

This is a statement signing, a club-record level of investment in a player whose ceiling, by the assessment of everyone who has tracked him closely, remains firmly unreached.

The rise that brought him to this moment has been almost implausibly fast.

Bazoumana Toure began his career in the renowned ASEC Mimosas academy before earning a move to Hammarby after an impressive breakthrough season in Ivory Coast.

The winger scored eight goals in 23 appearances in Sweden, attracting interest from clubs across Europe before securing his move to Newcastle United.

Hoffenheim moved for him in February 2025, paying €14 million to bring the teenager to Germany.

What followed was a rapid evolution from raw talent to genuine top-five-league threat.

In 2025/26, he contributed five goals and nine assists across 32 appearances — 14 goal involvements in total — while registering 763 total sprints across the Bundesliga campaign, the highest figure of any player in the entire division.

A player who covers more ground at top speed than anyone else in Germany is a player worth paying attention to.

He also featured at the 2026 World Cup with Ivory Coast, appearing off the bench as the Elephants navigated a competitive group before their Round of 32 exit against Norway — nine senior caps already accumulated before his 21st birthday.

Liverpool had formally registered their interest, identifying Toure as a high-upside wide option following the failed pursuit of Yan Diomande, who chose Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United were also monitoring the situation.

But neither club moved with the speed or conviction that Newcastle brought to the table.

By the time Liverpool’s recruitment team had completed their assessment, the deal was done.

Howe was characteristically measured but clearly enthusiastic.

“He’s somebody who we believe can offer us something different,” the head coach said.

“He has a really high ceiling and a lot of potential to unlock.”

Wilson added, “At just 20 years old, he’s already a hugely exciting young talent who has progressed year on year.”

Toure himself summed it up simply.

“It was my dream since I was young to play in the Premier League for a big team like Newcastle.”

The dream is now a reality.
