Sky Sports reporter rules out 23-year-old Man City star’s potential move to Tottenham

Tottenham have been linked with another goalkeeper after Martin Dubravka’s acquisition.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown great intent to provide Roberto De Zerbi the best possible chance of turning the club’s fortunes around following a disappointing campaign last season. The North Londoners must remain focused on their long-term objectives by signing quality players capable of helping the club take the next step in its pursuit of trophies in the years ahead.

Spurs have captured five signings thus far, including veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. The Slovak has been snapped up on a free transfer from Burnley, and he is expected to provide back-up for Antonin Kinsky. This is because Guglielmo Vicario is likely to move on this summer after three underwhelming campaigns.

Signed as a replacement for the great Hugo Lloris, Vicario has failed to prove himself as a reliable goalkeeper at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He is planning to return to his homeland following this season, with Juventus keen to sign the Italian international.

Despite signing Dubravka, Spurs continue to be linked with Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford. The England international, who acted as a deputy to Gianluigi Donnarumma on his return to Manchester City the previous season. He was largely restricted to appearances in the domestic cup competitions.

As a result, James Trafford wants to leave his boyhood club for the second time in his career for regular minutes. Tottenham have been interested in signing the 23-year-old, but according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge on X, Trafford is not a target for the North London club.

The English shot-stopper is seeking greener pastures, and if Spurs are not actively pursuing him, he has several other clubs willing to sign him. For Tottenham, signing the Man City goalkeeper does not make sense now.

Very busy few days for Spurs & more to come. However, understand James Trafford is not a Tottenham target. #THFC

This is because the club recently handed Antonin Kinsky a new, improved contract extension, recognising his talent and rewarding the Czech Republic glovesman for his outstanding displays in the last stretch of games last season. De Zerbi has been impressed with Kinsky’s shot-stopping ability, distribution, mentality and leadership qualities so much so that he wants to promote him as Tottenham’s No.1 next season.

If the Spurs boss has seemingly decided to make Kinsky his new first-choice goalkeeper, bringing in Trafford would not bode well, as he wants to establish himself as a No.1 away from Man City. Knowing Tottenham have sorted out their goalkeeping issues, Trafford himself would be against joining De Zerbi’s forces and instead move elsewhere in the Premier League to resurrect his career.
