Steven Gerrard voted No. 1 as Liverpool reveal top 5 in all-time greatest players list

Steven Gerrard has been named Liverpool’s greatest player of all time list as the final five names of their top 100 were revealed.

The club have released the final rankings in their ‘Liverpool’s Greatest’ list, with the final five names ranked on a special live show.

Throughout the week, Liverpool have been counting down the top 10, starting with Ian Callaghan (10th), Roger Hunt (9th), Virgil van Dijk (8th), Alan Hansen (7th), and Graeme Souness (6th).

With Salah left out, he was guaranteed a place in the top five, and Liverpool have revealed the Egyptian was voted fourth.

5. John Barnes

The 33-year-old, who has yet to confirm his next club, concluded his Liverpool career at the end of last season with the third-most goals in club history (257) and the fifth-most assists (120).

John Barnes, meanwhile, finished fifth of all-time, a spot worthy of the incredible talent that he showcased predominantly as a left winger and then in midfield over 10 seasons at Anfield.

Digger’s lightning-quick feet and football brain defined his time at the club, and he remains heavily involved with the club off the pitch in retirement.

Ian Rush, the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with a seemingly insurmountable 346 goals, was voted third, reflecting his awe-inspiring 660 appearances in red.

Yet the Welshman also did his fair share of setting up goals as a No. 9; he is currently ranked 11th for assists (83).

As for the top two, Sir Kenny Dalglish finished behind Steven Gerrard, with the pair representing two of the most transformative players of their respective generations.

Few would debate their place in the top two, but their final positions may be somewhat of a surprise with the club’s former No. 8 taking the top spot.

The duo lead the assist charts (First: Dalglish – 171, Second: Gerrard – 145), and sit sixth (Gerrard) and eighth (Dalglish) in the all-time goal charts.

Dalglish was the standout during the club’s most decorated period, with an elite ability to unpick defences and set up his teammates, combined with world-class finishing.

A man of class and humility, Dalglish later twice led the club with distinction from the touchline.

Gerrard’s 17-year career at the club, meanwhile, is a highlight reel in itself, and he will now be etched as the greatest player to grace the pitch for Liverpool.

He was the driving force during turbulent times and a source of constant inspiration as one of the greatest midfielders of his era.
