With the World Cup edging closer to a conclusion and the start of the new era under Andoni Iraola therefore almost upon us, there is still plenty of work for Liverpool to do in the transfer market.

Publicly at least, things have gone a little quieter of late. Liverpool still requires another forward, at least, though, and there might be other requirements depending on who leaves. Curtis Jones is one of those who has interest from elsewhere, though nothing has moved forward on that front yet.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with a name that has been familiar in the rumor mills for some time.

Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)

Missing out on the England squad this summer, it would perhaps have been possible for the future of Adam Wharton to have been sorted out already.

Instead, though, the big-money move has been Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. So far, Wharton has not gone anywhere even though the Crystal Palace man remains highly rated.

Harvey Elliott has been put forward as a possible makeweight for Wharton in the last 24 hours or so with his future at Anfield up in the air, while Football Insider has claimed that the Reds have moved on to other targets in the center of the field.

Wharton could stay at Selhurst Park for another year, but anything beyond that feels unrealistic. Quite simply, he is good enough to be playing at a higher level.

Liverpool.com says: If someone leaves then Liverpool will need another body in midfield. If Jones and Alexis Mac Allister both stay, though, that might not be the case.

Wharton is an excellent progresser of the ball but there would be a concern about his physicality. His injury history is not absolutely perfect, either.

Gilberto Mora (Tijuana)

Liverpool is among the clubs keeping a watchful eye on Mexico World Cup starlet Gilberto Mora, who currently plays in his homeland for Tijuana.

Mora has done well for his country at the age of just 17, leading to inevitable speculation about a move to Europe. Liverpool is just one of many major sides to be claimed to be in for him.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Making 20 league appearances last season, Mora scored six goals. According to the Daily Mail, his contract has a release clause worth around $27 million (£20 million), which means he will be attainable once he turns 18.

Liverpool.com says: Signing players who are a bit younger is always a risk, but not doing so means their valuations can skyrocket. Someone will take a chance on Mora and he appears to be heading for the top.
