Xabi Alonso would reportedly be keen on reuniting with Aurelien Tchouameni in the event Enzo Fernandez departs Chelsea this summer.
As per the Metro, the Argentine and his agent are continuing to explore options following Chelsea’s lacklustre 2025/2026 campaign.
Why Fernandez wants to leave Stamford Bridge
The Blues will not be playing any form of European football next season after finishing 10th last time out, which will have left a host of their highly-paid players contemplating where their futures lie.
Marc Cucurella has already sealed a move to Real Madrid and was hoping he’d swiftly be joined by Fernandez when their international duties had concluded.
However, Madrid went as far as putting a statement out last week to confirm they had no intention of signing the 25-year-old, despite growing speculation that he was Los Blancos-bound.
Tchouameni eyed as Fernandez replacement
Yet, Fernandez will continue to push to leave – even more so when he returns from the World Cup.
Alonso is aware of that fact and is keen on having a replacement lined up to succeed Chelsea’s vice-captain.
Tchouameni, 26, poses as an ideal option to do so, but he may take some convincing, given he’s grown accustomed to vying for the Champions League every year.
United are also expected to be at the front of the queue if the Frenchman is made available in the coming weeks, so they must be prepared to potentially go head-to-head with their league rivals in pursuit.
The Bordeaux graduate arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in an £85 million switch from AS Monaco. He is about to enter the penultimate season of his contract in the Spanish capital.
