Norwegian media react to Martin Odegaard's performance vs Brazil

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard delivered a solid performance for Norway during their 2-1 win over Brazil in the World Cup round of 16.

Norway went into the game as underdogs, and conceded an early penalty. However, goalkeeper Orjan Nyland was able to deny Bruno Guimaraes.

Nyland continued to excel in goal after the break. Erling Haaland eventually put Norway ahead after winning his aerial duel against Gabriel Magalhaes.

Haaland put the gloss on the performance with his second goal in the 90th minute.

Odegaard did not make a direct goal contribution, but he played relatively well.

The 27-year-old completed 101 passes with a 100 percent long ball accuracy. Odegaard had three shots and should have probably scored before the interval.

Shortly after the game, popular Norwegian outlet Norsk Rikskringkasting (NRK) gave him an 8/10 rating and praised his involvement and self-confidence.

They wrote: “Self-confidence, easy going and gets to chances. Among other things, a huge chance he fires just before half-time. A couple of very dangerous breaks against, but is one of the biggest drivers for Norway to win. Part of a very good midfield.”

The Gunners skipper has had a good World Cup campaign. He registered an assist in each of his previous three appearances until yesterday’s meeting against Brazil.

Odegaard had three of Norway’s four chances in the opening half. His shot prior to half-time was well saved by the onrushing Selecao goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The only downside yesterday was his decision-making in the final third. Odegaard controlled proceedings but could have been quicker with his distribution, avoiding multiple touches.

Norway have qualified for their first-ever World Cup quarter-final. They will now face England at the Miami Stadium. The Three Lions booked their spot with a thrilling 3-2 win over co-hosts Mexico.

Both countries have picked up form at the right time, and it promises to be another thrilling contest. Odegaard will no doubt want to make a big impression for The Vikings.

Similarly, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice are expected to start for England. Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze could likewise make contributions off the bench in Saturday’s encounter.
