Leeds United's stance on key man outlined after Chelsea transfer link - report

Leeds United’s reported stance on Gabriel Gudmundsson has been outlined

Leeds United are reportedly standing firm over their highly-rated left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The defender enjoyed a stellar maiden campaign at Elland Road after making a £10 move from Lille in the last summer transfer window.

He made 32 appearances in the Premier League, quickly becoming one of Leeds manager Daniel Farke’s most trusted lieutenants.

Leeds United’s stance on Gabriel Gudmundsson outlined

According to Football Insider, Leeds are standing firm on their stance over Gudmundsson, insisting he will not be sold this summer.

Premier League rivals are said to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, who recently bowed out of the World Cup with Sweden. However, it appears Leeds are determined to avoid losing such a key figure.

Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke told the Transfer Insider podcast: “Leeds don't want to lose anybody that's part of Daniel Farke’s first team squad, they've reluctantly let Pascal Struijk leave to join Brighton.

“Gudmundsson is a key player for Daniel Farke, he is undoubtedly the first-choice left-back for Leeds United at the moment.

“He's under a long-term contract having arrived last summer from Lyon as well so yeah, I don't think they would welcome or entertain any offers for Gudmundsson.

“Leeds are looking to build and improve on last season so that means keeping hold of their best players and that's what Daniel Farke will be demanding with Gabriel Gudmundsson.”

Potential Gabriel Gudmundsson interest

The way in which Gudmundsson has handled the transition to English football means future interest in his signature is perhaps inevitable.

He said: “It's difficult to place him [among the best left-backs] in the Premier League because he’s a wing-back. I think he's suited to that role more so than anything, but I do think there will be clubs looking at him in the Premier League thinking ‘yeah’. He'd certainly be one that teams would look to poach.”
