Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the most active clubs in world football this summer, and they show absolutely no signs of slowing down.

Under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs have completely overhauled their squad following a torrid 2025/26 Premier League campaign that left them teetering on the edge of relegation.

The North London club have moved decisively, completing deals for Andy Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool, Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes — before reportedly agreeing a club-record £100 million deal for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.

With Marcos Senesi and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka also through the door, De Zerbi’s rebuild is well and truly underway.

Now Spurs are setting their sights on attacking reinforcements. Tottenham have registered a genuine interest in Cody Gakpo.

The 27-year-old had a difficult 2025/26 campaign at Anfield under the since-sacked Arne Slot, and reports from the Netherlands earlier this summer suggested Gakpo himself could be open to a fresh challenge.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, Tottenham have an alternative to Gakpo in Manchester City’s Savinho should Liverpool not want to open doors that remain firmly shut as of today:

“Don’t forget what I told you recently, Savinho is a top target for Tottenham. And then they have another player that they really appreciate, which is Cody Gakpo from Liverpool. But in this case it will depend on what happens at Liverpool because, at the moment, doors for an exit are not open.”

“But Tottenham keep thinking of Savinho and keep thinking of Cody Gakpo after reshaping their midfield with Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali,” Romano added.

The Romano quotes make it clear that Tottenham like both players but they just need Liverpool to blink first. With the World Cup only recently concluded and the window far from over, don’t rule out this one resurfacing.
