Chelsea pressing for signing – Offer already made, Alonso pushing transfer

Chelsea have made a concrete attempt to sign Rayo Vallecano’s Pep Chavarría this summer.

The Premier League side are focusing on the left-back, after selling Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid in June.

Chelsea have already submitted multiple bids of around €9m and €15m for the defender.

Last Wednesday, we relayed news about the La Liga side rejecting them and referring to his €50m release clause.

Four days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of Chelsea’s agreement with the player. The Blues want to avoid prolonging the negotiations and are working on a quick agreement with his club.

Chelsea not giving up

Monday’s edition of AS claims Rayo Vallecano manager Beñat San José is prioritising a new left-back.

Alfonso Espino has left as a free agent and has already completed a move to Racing Club. This leaves Pep Chavarría as the only other recognised left-back and he’s attracting ‘strong interest’ from Xabi Alonso’s side.

AS claims it’s possible the Spanish club will reach an agreement with Chelsea for his sale. If that happens, the La Liga side have to find an adequate replacement.

Estadio Deportivo relays this claim and then shares more updates. Beñat San José is now keeping a close watch on Chavarría as Alonso is keen on having him at Stamford Bridge.

Despite the Spanish club rejecting Chelsea’s proposal, the fullback is keen on making a switch to England.

The west London club haven’t giving up and are pressing to sign him. Behind the scenes, the clubs are negotiating to finalise the defender’s transfer.

Estadio end their report by stating: ‘…his future seems to lie away from the Spanish capital. All of this hinges on Beñat San José’s stance.’

Contract, value, stats and agent info

Last season, Pep Chavarría played 3,519 minutes from 44 matches, managing a goal and four assists.

His contract expires in 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €10m. This is the highest value of the fullback’s career.

Agency AS1, who also represent Arsenal’s Piero Hincapié and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, manage the Spaniard.
