Ex-Pompey man targeting glory after joining fourth club in 17 months

The left-sided player made 12 appearances for the Blues in 2024-25, helping them remain in the Championship

A former Pompey player toasted his fourth club in 17 months - and set his sights on promotion to the Championship.

The left-sided player spent last term at Luton, where he featured 35 times and scored three goals, only to be released by boss Jack Wilshere at the season’s end.

That availability prompted MK Dons to swoop for the 30-year-old, where he links up with another former Fratton Park player in Craig MacGillivray.

And Bramall, who made 12 appearances for the Blues in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, is eyeing a return to the Championship with his new club.

‘Parts of my game that I wasn’t really comfortable with’

‘Last year I was left wing for Luton for the majority of it, I haven’t really played that position, but at the same time it’s down the left which I do like and enjoy and it did bring on parts of my game that I wasn't really comfortable with, but now I am.

‘Momentum is huge and starting strong is really, really important. At Luton we did it last year, we got momentum for the last 13, 14 games, so again it’s massive.

‘Taking the momentum from getting promoted from League Two, they are pretty similar leagues, but it is super, super important to start the season strong.

‘Warney knows it will be big for him. I think he’s had five promotions in eight years which is insane and I back him 100 per cent to do it again.

‘Whether that’s automatic or play-offs, I back him, hence why I’ve come here as I wanted to get promoted. It’s a massive club and I’m excited.’

Signed by Portsmouth on a short-term deal

Although he started four successive games at left-back, the left-footer was often used off the bench as a left winger and impressed with his energy, work-rate and commitment.

Some of the Fratton faithful were disappointed to see his release six months later, departing alongside Tom Lowery, Anthony Scully, Kusini Yengi and Alexander Milosevic in the summer of 2025.

Overall, four of Bramall’s 12 appearances had been starts, although, ominously, he made just one further appearance after his error led to Coventry’s winner in April 2025.

Yet with Connor Ogilvie and Jacob Farrell as contracted left-backs at the time, Pompey decided against retaining the former Arsenal man.

‘Did a brilliant job for us’

‘Under any other circumstances we would have been looking to offer Cohen something, but Jacob has been out pretty much all season and we paid money for a young lad to come over from Australia and have high hopes for him.

‘It's tough to have three left-backs right now. If it’s something which opens up at the back end of the summer then maybe, but it’s difficult right now when we’re looking to free up spaces and free up funds for summer recruitment.’
