Barcelona are looking to sign a new striker this summer, as they prepare to replace the already-departed Robert Lewandowski. [Julian Alvarez is their leading target](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/barcelona-believe-salary-limits-will-not-block-their-top-priority-move/), although if he had his way, president Joan Laporta would surely prefer to make a move for Erling Haaland.
Laporta, like many others within Barcelona, are huge fans of Haaland, who is having a stellar 2026 World Cup with Norway. He scored twice in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Brazil, and ahead of that match, his father Alfie Haaland made comments that will have alerted those within Can Barca.
As per [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/real-madrid/padre-haaland-deja-quiere-jugar-132153363), Haaland senior was asked by DAZN about a possible move to Real Madrid in the future, and rather than limiting himself to taking solely about the Bernabeu club, he also left the door open to a possible Barcelona move.
**“I don’t want to talk about the elections in other clubs. Erling is very happy at Manchester City right now. He has a long contract. We are waiting for the new season, but anyone would want to play for Real Madrid and play in the Champions League. Maybe (he will play in Spain), there is always a chance in football. In Spain there are fantastic clubs, there are great clubs. You never know, but at the moment he is happy in England.”**
Right now, there is zero chance that Barcelona are able to sign Haaland, even though he would be the dream Lewandowski replacement. Man City have no intention of selling, and given that the player himself is happy in Manchester, there will be no option for him to force a move.
However, that could happen in the coming years if he decides that a new challenge is necessary. If that happens, Spain would be his likely destination, and it could end up being a straight shoot-out between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
