Jeremy Monga medical update as Manchester City close in on Leicester City deal

Jeremy Monga is set to undergo his medical with Manchester City today as he looks to wrap up his £12.5m move from Leicester City.

The teenage winger is inching closer to his switch to the Etihad after City managed to fend off competition from Manchester United and Premier League champions Arsenal.

The deal is also set to include a sell-on clause and will end what has been a long pursuit from Premier League clubs for the talented wideman.

Arsenal had been deemed favourites to land Monga but felt Leicester's valuation was too high which allowed former Leicester boss Enzo Maresca to nip in and secure his signature.

Monga is considered one of the brightest teenage prospects in the country, having come through the club's academy where he has been developed since the age of eight.

He has since made 37 first-team appearances, and it is thought that Maresca has been pivotal to City's pursuit of the 16-year-old.

Monga had agreed to a one-year scholarship contract at the King Power last year, which was set to become a professional contract on July 10.

He is the third-youngest player to feature in a Premier League match, behind Arsenal duo Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri.

Monga's imminent move to Manchester will make him the joint most expensive League One departure - currently held by Mark McGuinness' transfer from Luton Town to Sheffield United last summer.

However, former Leicester striker Emile Heskey had urged the winger to ensure he keeps playing regular first-team football.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Heskey said: "It's very tough for a young kid when clubs like that come calling. As a young player, you always think you're confident enough to deal with anything, but it's not easy.

"He's 17 this summer, so that means he is going to be on a second year scholarship. Really, he should be concentrating on that and getting some actual football under his belt. There's a big conversation about him moving, but he hasn't really played loads of senior minutes yet. You want these young players to play continuous football.

"If he goes to United, is he going straight into their first team? If he goes to Arsenal, is he going to play for sure? No. These kids honestly need first-team football.

"He is a very, very good player, but he needs to be pushed, he needs to be challenged, and he needs to experience the real pressures of going up against adult professionals week in, week out."
