Arsenal Women confirm signing of Selina Cerci

As reported by Arseblog News on June 28, Arsenal Women have confirmed the signing of German forward Selina Cerci on a free transfer from Hoffenheim. She becomes the second confirmed signing of the summer after Georgia Stanway was announced on Friday, with Ona Batlle, Geraldine Reuteler and Lisa Baum expected to follow. We believe this is a two year contract with an option for an extra year.

Cerci arrives to bolster the Gunners forward line following the departure of Beth Mead to Manchester City and though principally a centre-forward, she can operate out wide too. Cerci scored 16 league goals in each of the last two Bundesliga seasons for Hoffenheim. She has also made very little secret of the fact that she supports Arsenal on social media in recent years.

Cerci, who has also played for Werder Bremen, Turbine Potsdam and FC Koln, told Arsenal.com, ‘I’m very excited to be here – it’s a big honour to play for Arsenal and I can’t wait to start. This is an opportunity to compete against and play alongside top players in one of the best leagues in the world. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and walking out at Emirates Stadium in front of all our supporters.’

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: ‘We’re delighted to complete the signing of Selina. She’s an instinctive goalscorer with a proven record in the Bundesliga, and we believe she’s in a strong position to transition to English football and Arsenal. We welcome her and her family to the club.’

Head Coach Renée Slegers said: ‘I’m so pleased that Selina will be joining our group. She has impressive goalscoring numbers and brings good presence, physicality and forward intent. Combined with her strong work ethic, we feel these qualities make her a great addition to our squad.’

Cerci will wear the number 29 shirt vacated by Michelle Agyemang.
