Everton boss David Moyes says he is "glad to see the back of" Mohamed Salah at Liverpool as he played down a tongue-in-cheek question over a move for the out-of-contract Egyptian this summer.

Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season after a decorated career at Anfield where he won two Premier League titles, the 2019 Champions League and a Club World Cup alongside the FA Cup in 2022 and two League Cups.

The Egypt captain, who is hoping to feature against Argentina in a World Cup quarter-final on Tuesday, scored nine times against the Blues during his time as a Reds player and speaking on Egyptian TV station ON Sport, Moyes admits he is glad the No.11 has finally walked away from his side's local rivals.

"I am not a specialist on Mo Salah because my team is Everton and we are fierce competitors," Moyes said.

"But I think all Evertonians were glad to see the back of Mo because he has been so good over the years. He's been a great goalscorer, a good player and he has been enjoyed by the Liverpool supporters.

"So I think we are all glad to see that Mo is leaving Liverpool. I am sure it won't be the end for him. But the performances during his career at Liverpool have been exceptional."

On the prospect of Salah signing for Everton, Moyes added: "No, no. Not possible. The rivalry is too big.

"Mohamed Salah's meaning to Liverpool is too big, so that would be impossible."

Salah has yet to name his next destination since his Liverpool exit and will remain as a free agent until after Egypt's World Cup campaign has concluded.
