Sandro Tonali has officially been announced as a new Tottenham Hotspur player, sealing a reported £100m package deal from Newcastle United.

The Magpies signed him from AC Milan in July 2023 for around £60.5m, meaning that Eddie Howe’s side net a healthy profit margin.

Spurs wasted no time making their move, initiating direct club-to-club contact with Newcastle last month before accelerating talks to get the deal over the line.

It shatters the club’s transfer record. surpassing the £85m agreed for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Tottenham’s package for the Italy international is structured as an initial £92.5m, with a further £7.5m in conditional add-ons linked to Champions League qualification across multiple seasons.

La Gazzetta dello Sport had reported the Reds as among the clubs keeping close tabs on developments.

The Italy international made 53 appearances for Newcastle last season, chipping in with three goals and seven assists.

Since returning from his 10-month gambling-related suspension, he has made 110 appearances in total, contributing 10 goals and 10 assists and forging a formidable midfield partnership with Bruno Guimaraes.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Tonali said:

“I’m very happy to be here. When I arrived at the Club today, it felt fantastic. People said about there being four or five clubs – there was only one.”

“I spoke to the Head Coach for close to two hours about the Club, the fans, the stadium and our football. It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham. I’ve played against Tottenham a few times and always found a great atmosphere made by great fans. I can’t wait to start the season.”

Roberto De Zerbi added on the deal: “Sandro is a special player and a great signing for our Club.”

“I have followed him for a long time, as he came through the youth system at my hometown club, Brescia, and I’m so happy to be working with him now. Given his qualities, there was a lot of interest in Sandro this summer. However, he was very clear in his desire to join Tottenham, and I know our fans will love what he brings to the team.”
