Liverpool open talks to sign 'one of the World Cup's standout talents' - report

Liverpool have opened talks to sign one of the standout young talents at the World Cup, as they look to improve Andoni Iraola's squad in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have confirmed just one new addition in the summer transfer window so far, but their business will be far from over.

The Reds confirmed the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz earlier in the summer, hijacking Newcastle's deal to secure his signature.

With plenty of players heading through the exit door, there's little chance that Liverpool's business is finished.

The Merseyside club lost Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, three players who were regulars in the senior squad last season.

If Liverpool want to improve on a fifth-place finish in the Premier League from last campaign, then there's no doubt they need to continue bringing in reinforcements.

According to a report from Team Talk, Liverpool have opened talks to sign Club Tijuana youngster Gilberto Mora in the summer transfer window.

The 17-year-old has been described as 'one of the World Cup's stand-out talents', and he is attracting interest from a host of clubs around the world.

Liverpool have opened talks with both his representatives and the Mexican club, but they face competition from sides such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and other clubs in the Premier League.

Liverpool have only made an exploratory approach so far, but they have certainly made their move in terms of trying to establish if a deal is feasible.

Mora is believed to dream of a move to Real Madrid, but it remains to be seen whether they will make a move.

Although Mora is undoubtedly a huge young talent destined for the big time, Liverpool also need to ensure they bring in players capable of making an impact immediately.

The Mexican star isn't likely to join Liverpool and become a guaranteed starter. If they want to improve on their fifth-place finish, they need players to make an immediate impact.

Liverpool certainly need to find a replacement for Salah on the right-hand side of attack, while they could also do with strengthening in other areas of the pitch.

A right-sided forward is likely to be their priority, and it remains to be seen where else they could look to strengthen.
