Everton table bid to sign 'elite' Champions League striker - report

Everton are keen to strengthen their squad and begin pushing for European football this season, and David Moyes is already making additions.

The Toffees have completed a deal to sign Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough for around £25m, while a deal has also been agreed with Chelsea to turn Tyrique George's loan move permanent.

But with a number of players expected to depart this summer, Moyes is keen to ensure that he has plenty of options to choose from to win games, and the Merseyside club have now tabled a formal bid to upgrade their forward line.

Everton Make Bid for Kofane

Christian Kofane

According to Africa Foot, Everton have tabled a formal offer to Bayer Leverkusen to sign striker Christian Kofane this summer.

Kofane, who has been described as 'elite', enjoyed a fine breakthrough campaign for the Bundesliga outfit in the 2025/26 season, having joined from La Liga 2 outfit Albacete for just £5m the previous summer. But the young Cameroon star registered five goals and four assists in just 12 starts, and shone in the Champions League too.

His performances have caught the attention of a number of top clubs around Europe, but Everton have stepped up their interest and are trying to jump to the front of the queue as a result.

It's reported that Everton have now tabled a formal offer to sign the 20-year-old striker, as they look to upgrade on current options Thierno Barry and Beto for the number nine position.

The amount of the fee is yet to be public knowledge, but it also remains unclear if Kofane would be open to a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium at this stage, with Leverkusen set to play European football next season.

Leverkusen are not looking to sell the striker, but having paid less than £5m for him 12 months ago, a big offer from the Premier League could see that stance change, and Everton are ready to push for that scenario.

Kofane Would Be Major Beto Upgrade

Christian Kofane

Everton currently have two very good striker options in Barry and Beto, but neither player were reliable enough in front of goal last season.

Kofane's goal record wasn't the most prolific either, but its clear that he has a lot more to his game at this stage of his career, and he can continue to develop in an upward trajectory.

Beto has proven that while he has great energy and tries hard in every game, he isn't of the required level. Kofane would be a major upgrade, and if they can get a deal done then it would be a major coup considering the competition for his signature.
