Mohamed Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season after a glittering spell at Anfield, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League in 2019, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup in 2022 and two League Cups.

The Egypt captain, who is hoping to feature against Argentina in Tuesday’s World Cup quarter-final, scored nine goals against Everton during his Liverpool career.

Speaking to Egyptian TV station ON Sport, Everton manager David Moyes admitted he is “glad to see the back of” Salah, while laughing off suggestions of a move for the out-of-contract forward this summer.

Salah is yet to announce his next destination following his Liverpool departure and will remain a free agent until Egypt’s World Cup campaign comes to an end.

“I am not a specialist on Mo Salah because my team is Everton and we are fierce competitors,” Moyes said as quoted by Liverpool Echo. “But I think all Evertonians were glad to see the back of Mo because he has been so good over the years.

“He’s been a great goalscorer, a good player and he has been enjoyed by the Liverpool supporters. So I think we are all glad to see that Mo is leaving Liverpool. I am sure it won’t be the end for him. But the performances during his career at Liverpool have been exceptional.”

On the prospect of Salah signing for Everton, Moyes added: “No, no. Not possible. The rivalry is too big. Mohamed Salah’s meaning to Liverpool is too big, so that would be impossible.”

The 2024/25 campaign proved to be Salah’s finest season in a Liverpool shirt, as he matched the Premier League record with 47 goal involvements (29 goals and 18 assists) to inspire the Reds to the title, which they secured with four games to spare under new head coach Arne Slot.

His outstanding campaign earned him a second Premier League winners’ medal, a fourth Golden Boot, a third PFA Players’ Player of the Year award and a third FWA Footballer of the Year honour.

After an emotional farewell to Anfield in May, Mohamed Salah brought the curtain down on a remarkable nine-year spell at Liverpool.

He departed as the club’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, Liverpool’s leading scorer in both the Premier League and European competition, and one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
