England made it through to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic win against Mexico in the last 16. Likewise, Norway progressed after they sprung a major upset against Brazil – now, the two teams will come head-to-head in the final eight of the competition.
Which team has the better squad on paper? Of course, one’s mind may initially think that England are stronger, but it isn’t quite so simple – Norway have some absolute superstars at their disposal.
To try and figure out an answer to that question, we developed a combined XI between the two teams. Who makes it into your combined England and Norway lineup?
GK: Jordan Pickford
Jordan Pickford wins this one by a landslide. The goalkeeper role isn’t a problem position for Norway per se, but none of their three ‘keepers can hold a candle to the Everton man.
RB: Julian Ryerson
Julian Ryerson had an astonishingly good campaign for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga last season, notching up an incredible 15 assists in 31 league outings.
CB: Kristoffer Ajer
It was difficult to pick between Ezri Konsa and Kristoffer Ajer, but we sided with the Norweigian on this occasion – his physicality and ability on the ball are a frightening combination.
CB: Marc Guehi
Marc Guehi is amongst the best centre-backs in the world right now. A wonderful technician with near-peerless anticipational skills, he has been one of England’s star players at the World Cup.
