Victor Munoz has offered some insight into how Andoni Iraola will use his wingers when he gets started at Liverpool, a few weeks after signing from Osasuna.

Munoz was snapped up in a deal worth around $46 million (£35 million) when Liverpool hijacked Newcastle's swoop for his signature. While more quality in forward areas remains a priority, the Reds have got one part of their summer plan ticked off.

Under Arne Slot, the team lacked pace and the ability to break down low blocks, but that will be the challenge for Iraola now: to ensure that the problems Liverpool faced last term are rectified.

"He gave me a glimpse into how his teams play, how that might suit me," Munoz said before Spain knocked Portugal out of the World Cup thanks to a goal from Mikel Merino.

"How he likes his wingers to be wide, able to get to the byline, and hard-working. I made the right choice with that next step because those are characteristics I really identify with."

Munoz was also asked about the reasons he picked Liverpool as his next club, and why the traits that he has are what Iraola is looking for from his wide players.

"His style of play, his pressing, how he wants to manage teams, well, I am a player who, because of my characteristics, could fit in," Munoz added. "And that’s also why I took that step."

Last season, Munoz was a key man for Osasuna, who only avoided relegation from La Liga on goal difference.

"Think roadrunner," Spanish soccer writer Ruairidh Barlow told Liverpool.com. "Everything Victor Munoz does is acceleration, and it looks like his legs are moving at a different rate to everyone else.

"Primarily, he's a winger who goes at defenders and looks to either get inside and shoot, or get outside and hit the byline. That's the first thing you'll see, and his pace really does jump out at you.

"Within that pace, he has good feet, and fairly strong technique, but his defining trait is that he wants to stretch defenses to breaking point. He can be a bit of a tornado in the right circumstances.

"Earlier, I saw a comparison with Craig Bellamy, and certainly in terms of body type, there's something in that. He sort of looks like he's bursting out of his own body when he gets going.

"Bellamy, of course, is more of a forward, though, whereas Munoz primarily does his damage wider."
