Everton keen on signing La Liga midfielder – Belief he fits Moyes’ plans

Everton are looking for another midfielder, after signing Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough last week.

David Moyes has Hackney and James Garner as his two defensive midfielders and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tim Iroegbunam, Carlos Alcaraz and Harrison Armstrong as central midfielders.

Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Argentina of River Plate’s plan to sign Alcaraz.

Their desire is to sign him on loan and it’s unclear whether this move will go through.

Everton looking at La Liga for midfielder

The Merseyside club have identified Villarreal’s Pape Gueye as a target. That’s according to Cadena Ser, who claim the Toffees have been monitoring him for a while.

The La Liga side’s window has been quite so far and they’re waiting to resolve the 27-year-old’s future.

He is ‘main candidate for the major sale’ this summer and his exit would bring in money to spend. Gueye is attracting interest from multiple clubs, including Everton.

Cadena Ser explain several clubs have made approaches to ask for information about signing him.

The Merseyside club, who are looking for a midfielder, are keen and believe the France-born Senegal international fits into David Moyes’ plans.

However, Everton haven’t taken the final step by sending a formal offer to Villarreal. There’s no mention of their demand, and Transfermarkt value him at €40m.

Following Senegal’s elimination from the World Cup, the Spanish club believe there could be movements around Gueye in the coming days or weeks.

Player favours PL move

In February, Sport Witness covered claims from France of Manchester United as an option for Pape Gueye. However, the Red Devils haven’t made advances so far.

Two months later, the player revealed he’s ready to move to the Premier League and is learning English.

At that time, he said: “It’s [English is] the language of business. I’ve invested in Morocco, Senegal, and Dubai, so that will help me.

“The midfielders’ play, their impact on the game, the intensity… And watching them, I tell myself I’m more than good enough to play in the Premier League.”
