Former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has steered Egypt through to the World Cup round of 16.

However, the Egyptians now face their sternest challenge yet as they head to Atlanta to take on Argentina. This year has proved a whirlwind for the player affectionately known as 'The Egyptian King' amongst Reds supporters.

Salah's nine-year, silverware-filled spell at Anfield drew to an emotional close in May, and his current mission is to guide his nation to only its fourth ever World Cup. The Pharaohs impressed during the group phase, securing draws against Belgium and Iran before defeating New Zealand 3-1 to progress as runners-up in Group G.

A tense penalty shootout victory over Australia in the round of 32 followed, creating further history as Egypt claimed its maiden World Cup knockout triumph.

Now, Lionel Messi and Argentina block Egypt's path as Salah encounters another soccer icon. Here, Liverpool.com examines the 34-year-old's life beyond the pitch, including his net worth, 'hospital-like' residence, and the factors behind his Anfield exit.

What is Salah's net worth?

Salah's big break arrived in 2017, when Jurgen Klopp's Reds secured his signature from Roma. The rest is history, where his goalscoring record is concerned, though his initial Anfield contract only saw him pocket an estimated £90,000 ($120,000) per week.

A year and 44 goals afterward, he put pen to paper on a fresh five-year deal, which doubled his wages. In 2022, he committed to a record-breaking three-year extension that allegedly saw him pocket upwards of £350,000 ($470,000) weekly. His most recent contract, agreed in 2025, was terminated early this summer to facilitate his departure.

Endorsement agreements with Adidas, Pepsi, and Vodafone Egypt have significantly enhanced his wealth, and Celebrity Net Worth calculates that presently, Salah's net worth sits at an impressive £105 million ($140 million)

Where does Salah live?

Throughout his spell with Liverpool, it's believed that Salah lived, and probably still lives, in Cheshire's "golden triangle," a region within the county that's home to numerous prominent sports personalities and famous faces.

It remains uncertain where Salah and his family will relocate next, if at all, as his future club hasn't yet been confirmed. However, his wife, Magi, may well be pleased to leave their northwest property behind, considering that Salah himself compared it to a hospital.

That analogy was drawn by the soccer player due to all the extensive recovery and fitness equipment the 34-year-old has had fitted. The Cheshire property features two gymnasiums, dedicated to bodybuilding and strength training.

There are additionally hyperbaric chambers and cryotherapy units. Speaking to L'Equipe in 2022, Salah said: "I am constantly looking to improve my physical condition. It's true that I like to say that my house looks like a hospital, [but] my wife doesn't like that! [She] says that I spend more time with my machines than with her!"

Why did Salah leave Liverpool?

Salah's tenure at Anfield officially concluded on July 1, and the Egyptian will long be remembered. He transformed the Reds' recent history with his 257 goals and exits as the club's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League and European competitions.

He secured two league championships during his Merseyside stint alongside the Champions League and several domestic trophies. However, the choice to walk away from this legacy was far from straightforward.

A combination of underlying friction with former boss Arne Slot, a tactical shift toward younger strikers, and the player reaching 34 all likely played a role in his departure. Where Salah will continue his career remains uncertain as he embarks on fresh territory with Egypt at the World Cup. Yet what remains undeniable is the affection he will eternally hold for the Reds.
