Former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has steered Egypt through to the World Cup round of 16. But they now face their sternest examination yet as they head to Atlanta to take on Argentina.

This year has proved a tumultuous journey for the player affectionately known as 'The Egyptian King' by Reds supporters. His nine-year, silverware-filled spell at Anfield reached an emotional conclusion in May and his current mission has been guiding his nation into only their fourth ever World Cup.

The Pharaohs did not let their country down during the group stages, securing draws with Belgium and Iran before defeating New Zealand 3-1 to progress as runners-up in Group G. A tense penalty shootout against Australia followed in the round of 32 and further history was achieved as Egypt claimed their maiden World Cup knockout victory.

Now, Lionel Messi and Argentina block their path as Salah comes up against another global icon. So the ECHOlooks at the 34-year-old's life away from the pitch, including his net worth, 'hospital-like' home and the circumstances behind his departure from Liverpool.

What is Mohamed Salah's net worth?

Salah's breakthrough arrived in 2017, when Jurgen Klopp's Reds secured his signature from Roma in a £34.3million transfer. The rest is history regarding his goalscoring exploits, but his initial Anfield contract only saw him pocket an estimated £90,000 per week.

One year and 44 goals later, he put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, with his wages doubling in the process. In 2022, he signed a record-shattering three-year extension that reportedly netted him in excess of £350,000 per week.

His final contract, signed in 2025, was terminated early this summer to facilitate his send-off. Sponsorship agreements with Adidas, Pepsi and Vodafone Egypt have further swelled his fortune and Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Salah's net worth currently stands at a staggering £105m.

Where does Mohamed Salah live?

Throughout his time at Liverpool, it is believed that Salah has resided, and most probably continues to reside, in Cheshire's so-called 'golden triangle', an area of the county that is home to numerous high-profile athletes and celebrities.

Where Salah and his family will relocate next, if indeed they move at all, remains unclear, as his next club is yet to be confirmed. However, his partner Magi may not be sorry to leave their northwest property behind, given that Salah himself once compared it to a hospital.

That analogy was drawn by the Egyptian superstar owing to the extensive recovery and training apparatus he had fitted throughout the home. The Cheshire property boasts two gym rooms, dedicated to bodybuilding and strength training respectively, alongside hyperbaric chambers and cryotherapy facilities.

Speaking to L'Equipe in 2022, Salah said: "I am constantly looking to improve my physical condition. It's true that I like to say that my house looks like a hospital, [but] my wife doesn't like that! [She] says that I spend more time with my machines than with her!"

Why did Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool?

Salah's tenure at Anfield officially drew to a close on July 1 and the Egyptian forward will not be forgotten in a hurry. He reshaped the Reds' modern era with his 257 goals and departs as the club's record scorer in both the Premier League and European competitions.

He secured two league titles during his stint with the club, alongside the Champions League and a number of domestic cup honours. Yet walking away from this remarkable legacy was far from straightforward.

A combination of mounting friction with former boss Arne Slot, a tactical transition towards younger attackers and the player reaching the age of 34 all likely played their part in his departure. Where Salah will go next remains uncertain as he embarks on unfamiliar territory with Egypt at the World Cup.

What is beyond doubt, however, is the affection he will always hold for the Reds. In his farewell message, he said: "I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club, it's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit.

"I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club. This club will always be my home to me and to my family. Thank you for everything."
