Former Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and his Belgium team-mates appeared to mock United States president Donald Trump after their sweet 4-1 win over the USA at the World Cup.

The build-up to the last-16 clash at the Seattle Stadium had been overshadowed by the controversial call by FIFA to allow United States striker Folarin Balogun - who has been linked with a summer switch to Everton - to play despite being sent off in their 2-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina in the previous round.

FIFA's decision to suspend Balogun's automatic one-match ban for 12 months led to widespread criticism and there was further outcry when Trump admitted he had asked the football's world governing body to review the ban, which he said would have left a "big stain" on the tournament.

But an incensed Belgium let their feet do the talking on the pitch before they made their feelings perfectly clear with what they did immediately after Lukaku, the country's all-time leading goalscorer, sealed the emphatic win.

The Napoli striker produced a brilliant finish into the bottom corner to make it 93 goals in 131 appearances for The Red Devils and then raced away in celebration by cupping his ear to the crowd and suggesting there had been too much talk.

Lukaku was then joined by his team-mates near the corner flag - and it was there where they mimicked the dance Trump made famous during his 2024 US presidential campaign.

The mockery didn't end there with the Belgium team's official social media accounts posting a picture of Lukaku celebrating his goal with the caption: "Overturn this."

Next up for Belgium is a quarter-final showdown on Friday (8pm kick-off, UK time) against European champions Spain, who beat Portugal 1-0 earlier on in the day.

After that match, Portugal boss Roberto Martinez, who signed Lukaku for Everton, confirmed he would be leaving the job.

The only negative for Belgium was the "serious" injury sustained by another former Everton player, Amadou Onana.

The Aston Villa midfielder left the stadium on crutches and wearing a brace on his right knee after being forced off midway through the first half of the thumping success over the United States.

Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia said the injury left "one dark cloud” over the victory and added: "It's not good news for him as an individual or for us as a team.

"I do have the feeling that he is out."

After scoring his third goal of the 2026 World Cup, Lukaku, who netted 87 times for Everton across a four-year spell, paid tribute to Onana by holding aloft his shirt.
