Chelsea are not considering a loan exit for Alejandro Garnacho. This stance casts fresh doubt on one of the most talked-about options for the winger this summer.
The Argentine’s future at Stamford Bridge remains open after an underwhelming first season, and there have already been suggestions the Blues would be willing to listen to offers. What is becoming clearer, however, is the type of deal they are prepared to accept.
Chelsea draw line
As we covered last week, Roma have already been positioned as one of the clubs exploring a move. There is now a clearer picture of how those talks have started.
Italian outlet Planeta Roma, citing journalist Filippo Biafora, the Serie A side have made an initial enquiry for Alejandro Garnacho. Their intention is to assess the conditions of a potential deal.
Their preference is to sign the winger on loan. This structure would allow them to strengthen without committing to a large immediate fee.
Chelsea, however, are not currently entertaining that idea. The report states the London club have taken a firm stance. They do not intend to let the 22-year-old leave on a temporary basis under the conditions proposed.
It suggests that while Chelsea may be open to Garnacho moving on, they are aiming for either a permanent transfer. Alternatively, they want a deal that guarantees a financial return.
Roma are expected to remain attentive to the situation and could revisit discussions later in the window if circumstances change, but for now there is a clear mismatch between the two clubs.

Roma’s approach underlines that there is demand for the player at a high level, particularly from a side with Champions League football. At the same time, Chelsea’s refusal to sanction a loan indicates they are not looking for a short-term solution.
That combination points towards a summer where negotiations may take time to develop. Unless a club is willing to meet Chelsea’s preferred terms, Garnacho could remain in a situation where interest does not immediately translate into a move.
For now, the direction is clearer than before. Chelsea are open to discussing his future, but only on terms that suit them.
